Inventory Intel: Private community to capture post-pandemic demand for ‘residential haven’

by Kerrie Kennedy

With demand for safety and space increasing amidst the pandemic, a luxury new construction, single-family gated community is set to launch in Southwest Ranches, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale.

The 44-acre AKAI Estates, designed by Vasco Vieira, founder and head architect of Portugal-based firm Vasco Viera Arquitectos, features 16 residences — each on two acres — with a choice of five different floor plans.

A twist on resort-style living for uncertain times, the community offers private aquatic entertainment areas with the ability to add on features like putting greens, basketball courts and tennis/pickle-ball courts.

“The exclusivity, privacy and ability to customize residences to exactly what a buyer desires is what sets AKAI Estates apart from any development in South Florida,” said AKAI Developer Alex Yokana in a press release. “Ideally located in close proximity to Miami and Fort Lauderdale, this development offers ease of access to the site with our convenient helipad, privacy and space buyers are looking for, and is yet the best location with access to South Florida’s top schools, fine dining, entertainment and culture.”

According to Yokana, Southwest Ranches is one of several sleepy suburbs and spillover markets across the country that’s seeing a spike in interest from local, Northeast and Midwest buyers as they seek to relocate their families and trade in their city condos for large single-family estates.

Homes in the master-planned community feature cutting-edge amenities and range in size from 7,000 to 15,000 square feet. Prices start at $7 million.
