Agent Snapshot: Sarit Oren, Director of Sales at Elysee Miami, Douglas Elliman

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate? Prior to going into real estate, I had a career as a criminologist and profiler.

Where did you grow up? Montreal, Canada

Growing up, what did you want to be? I wanted to be a family lawyer. I hoped to help kids survive the transitions of divorce and custody hearings. After my first year studying law, I was consumed by my criminology courses and decided to take on greater evils.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? When I’m stressed, I jump into bed with my daughter and our two dogs – it’s an instant stress reliever. It grounds me and is a guaranteed laugh.

If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Kevin Hart. He makes me laugh hysterically. Besides, my daughter would kill me if I had the chance to meet him and passed it up.

Where is Miami’s best-kept secret? Edgewater is Miami’s best-kept secret. This neighborhood has it all – a waterfront location, endless bay views and some of the coolest restaurants and hangouts.

What do you love most about the industry? This industry allows me to meet new people and build relationships I would otherwise be too shy to initiate.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Choosing a development to work on. I won’t join a project I am not personally sold on. Also, I know once I’m in, I won’t leave until we reach a successful completion. Making that commitment is the hardest step. I’m proud to say I chose well with the most recent example being Elysee Miami.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads? First, work your existing network diligently, as word-of-mouth referrals are the most valuable Then, covet new relationships in all corners of the city – Miami’s elite restaurant, nightlife and hospitality staff have access to the most affluent of clients serving as a great introductory point.

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately? Succession on HBO. I finished 2 seasons in less time than I’d care to admit.

What’s your favorite meal in Miami? The “cheat meal” at Dairy Belle. The only place in Miami that serves an authentic Canadian poutine.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Miami? Elysee Miami of course. Designed by Arquitectonica, it’s telescopic-shaped tower gives the illusion of looking up at the stars. With only two units per floor and less than 100 units total, this boutique property makes the perfect residence for my celebrity clients looking for privacy and luxury living.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job? When buyers start speaking in a foreign language around me – a language I’m fluent in – but clearly, they have no idea.

What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you? That I speak seven languages.

What’s your favorite vacation spot and why? Mykonos. It’s Paradise. I started spending my summers there two years ago with my brother and friends. I countdown the months until I return. I fell in love with the people, the scenery, the culture, the food and the beaches.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Know your market, tell the truth, be relatable and listen!

Who are your favorite people to follow on social media? My family. Most of them live abroad between Canada, Israel and Johannesburg, South Africa, so social media has been the best way for us to stay connected and current.
