Agent Snapshot: Vickie Melus, Luxury Real Estate Specialist, Ancona Real Estate

by South Florida Agent

Where did you grow up? I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Growing up, what did you want to be? A doctor or a lawyer.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? I take an aerial yoga and/or Vinyasa Yoga weekly, meditate daily, and travel monthly. These practices are the foundation of my life and keep me aligned, balanced, refreshed and energized.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Jesus Christ. The practices of this incredible man inspires, empowers, and transforms lives all over the world.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? The beach. I love watching the ocean kiss the shoreline.

What do you love most about the industry? I love the feeling I get when I tell my client I exceeded their expectations.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? My network of ultra-high net worth clients, including celebrities, hedge fund managers, professional athletes and even royalty. I am globally connected to over 600,000 real estate professionals worldwide. Ancona Brokerage has a tremendous organic social media following of over 80,000 people worldwide.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Driving in traffic. I have witnessed and continue to feel the traffic effects of the tremendous change and growth that’s transformed South Florida into one of the East Coast’s most sought-after destinations.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? After graduating college, I quit my job and volunteered full-time as a Literacy AmeriCorps member in Palm Beach County. I spent 40 plus hours a week volunteering in low performing schools and community libraries mentoring high risk, low performing students. At the end of the year, I completed over 1,700 volunteer hours, and my mentees excelled professionally, personally and academically.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? A Return to Love, by Marianne Williamson. I love this book and have read it multiple times. It reminds me to live simply, give freely and live intentionally. My favorite quote from this book is “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.”

What is your favorite restaurant? Vegan restaurants are the best restaurants!

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Miami? Coral Castle

What kind of car do you drive? Mercedes Benz C300

What is your favorite city after Miami? Colorado Springs, Colorado. I love the hiking trails of Pikes Peak and the red sandstone mountain views of Garden of the Gods.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Always do your best and if you don’t know something, find out!

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? @EckhartTolle
