by Zachary Wright

While California and the Northeast continue to hold most of the top spots in a ranking of the most expensive ZIP codes, this Miami Beach neighborhood edged out 90 others. The 33109 ZIP code comprising Fisher Island, among the most exclusive enclaves of Miami Beach, was named the tenth-most expensive by PropertyShark in its annual report on the top 100 ZIP codes in the U.S.

As expected, California counties dominated the list with 82 of the most expensive ZIP codes. Silicon Valley alone held the most with more than 30. The state of New York also held a significant number at 20 ZIP codes with Sagaponack in Suffolk County, NY coming in second place overall.

Atherton, CA was named number one after PropertyShark analyzed the data. This Silicon Valley neighborhood had a median sales price of nearly $7 million. However, this price actually dropped from 2016 to 2017.

With a median asking price of $3.25 million, Fisher Island actually moved down seven ranks compared to 2017 when it was placed third. In 2017, the annual median sale price was above $4 million However, this island of huge mansions edged out other notoriously wealthy ZIP codes like Beverly Hills and Newport Beach in Orange County. The 33109 ZIP code was the only Florida zip code on the report by PropertyShark.
