As millennials are expected to become the largest generation in history, it is no surprise the population’s location dynamic has been shifting. With millennials making up most of the labor force, millennials are following jobs that are relocating to primarily urban locations.

Miami is no exception to that as the coastal city is one of the top trending areas in Florida. Miami ZIP codes 33137 and 33155 ranked No. 6 and No. 7, respectively, in RentCafé’s research study finding the top 10 trending millennial ZIP codes in Florida. Research found that postal code 33137 experienced a 25.4 percent increase over the five years between 2011 and 2016. Within the same time-period, ZIP code 33155 experienced a 25.0 percent increase.

Miami’s neighbor, Fort Lauderdale, ranked No. 2 in the state, as its ZIP code 33304 experienced a 43.9 percent increase over the five year period. The Jacksonville ZIP code of 32204 came in at No. 1 with a 45.3 percent increase.

In terms of which cities across the country are trending with millennials right now, Los Angeles and Manhattan are still top spots for the age group. Denver is also a hot spot with four areas making the top 20 ZIP codes with the highest increase over the five-year period.

RentCafé classified millennials as the population born between the years of 1977 to 1996. It used the U.S. Census population estimates to calculate the ZIP codes with the highest increases in millennial population by the highest number of total millennial residents and by the largest share of millennials within a five-year time period.
