Miami-Dade County residents can expect commute times of at least 60 minutes, according to a new study.

Esri’s calculations considered commuters via public transportation along with private modes. Broward and Palm Beach counties made it on the list, but Miami-Dade dominated with the majority of bad commute times. Esri’s findings prove Miami-Dade’s bad reputation for traffic with nearly a quarter of Miami Beach’s commuters having a 60- to 89-minute drive to work.

The cost of traffic

Miami with its various zip codes is also featured 14 times, which is consistent with Intrix Inc.’s report ranking them eleventh in longest time spent in traffic among 240 cities. Intrix Inc., a Washington company that provides data for mobile apps, also estimated that Miami drivers spent an average of 64.8 hours in traffic last year, costing each driver around $1,762 annually. They found that amount after calculating the driver’s lost time and gas costs among other factors.

This congestion on Miami roads has earned the city a reputation that many try to rectify. The Miami-to-Orlando passenger train project that connects to Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach in an effort to reduce traffic. Similarly, companies like Uber now display public transportation information for Miami residents to “conveniently get around without a car,” Kasra Moshkani, South Florida Uber general manager, said.
