Colombians are top international searchers for Miami real estate

by Chelsea Niaz

Colombia registered the most South Florida property searches on the MIAMI Association of Realtors’ website in March 2017, according to a recent release from the organization. The country maintained its status as the most active country searching Miami real estate for 11 of the past 16 months with last year’s biggest international buyer, Venezuela, coming in second.

Although Colombia beat Venezuela in property searches, the latter country still accounts for 15 percent of all international purchases in South Florida while Colombia has a 10 percent share, a recent profile finds. Venezuela’s 15 percent purchasing pattern stays consistent with their behavior from last year.

Both countries are part of the reason why the Miami Association of Realtors named the Miami metro area the No. 1 U.S. market for international consumers in January. That is a designation Miami has held for 12 of the last 14 months.

“As Miami evolved from a tourist city to a global metropolis, we’ve seen more diversified foreign home buyers search and buy properties here,” Coral Gables Realtor Christopher Zoller, the 2017 MIAMI chairman of the board, said in a statement. “It’s no longer just South America. It is home to buyers in India, China, Turkey, France and other countries who want to live the Miami lifestyle.”

The diversity of countries looking into Miami real estate is reflected in the lists below. Spain joined the top 10 countries visiting the website this year while the United Kingdom left it and the previous order of countries shifted significantly.
