For the fifth consecutive month, Colombia has lead all foreign countries in searches for South Florida real estate, according to the Miami Association of Realtors (MIAMI.)

Colombia continues to top the list partially because of its demographic of buyers, MIAMI explained. Often times, they are entrepreneurs and professionals who look to enjoy a prosperous life in a new home. South Florida also offers a bit of familiarity, with Miami having one of the highest speaking Spanish populations of any metropolitan area.

Florida has established itself as a location for many other South American countries with Colombia, Venezuela, and Brazil accounting for some of the most searches, and 35 percent of all foreign South Florida transactions. Peru and Argentina also crack the top 10 making half South American.

Florida continues to be a destination for foreign buyers, with interest coming from the Middle East and India. Israel and India posted the fourth and sixth highest searches of any country.

Mark Sadek, the 2016 MIAMI chairman of the board, believes that South Florida is one of the most diverse and accepting places in the country, making it an ideal place for a new start.

“South Florida is known around the world for embracing all cultures,” Sadek said. “Foreign-born residents love Miami.”
