Every week, we ask a real estate professional for their Short List, a collection of tips and recommendations on an essential topic in real estate. This week, we talked with Rachel Muehlenbrock and Tara Rivers, leaders of Douglas Elliman’s the RachelTara Group, who shared their top tips to distinguish yourself from the competition.

There is no doubt that in 2015 the market has substantially improved. In fact, the market has improved so much that an increasingly large number of people have their real estate license or intend on getting a real estate license. This is why we have to set ourselves apart from everyone else and the strong competition. This is why we believe that being a real estate agent is not simply buying and selling homes. We are real estate counselors and advisers. It is a big decision for people to choose someone to list their home with. It is an intimate experience that includes a wealth of expertise, individuality and dedication. Here are a few tips that have helped us to set ourselves apart, leading to our recent career advancement of joining the Boca Raton office of Douglas Elliman’s Florida brokerage as residential real estate sales associates known as the RachelTara Group.

3. Learn as much about your clients as you possibly can. While it is extremely important to have a vast amount of knowledge in the area in which they are selling their home, we believe it is also very important to establish a relationship with your client in order to wholly understand their motivation for buying or selling.

2. Be sure to have an open line of communication at all times with your client. This is imperative as you need to feel comfortable enough to let them know when it is time to make a crucial decision regarding the pricing of their property.

1. Honesty and integrity are key. Your word and your character mean everything in this business. Referral business will keep your business thriving through the ups and downs of the market. While sometimes it is not always comfortable to share unfavorable advice to your client, sometimes it is essential in a transaction. Your clients will increase their trust and confidence in you through this honesty and integrity.

The sister duo of Rachel Muehlenbrock and Tara Rivers represents nearly 15 years of combined experience and a wall’s worth of accolades. Both have proven themselves top performing agents with millions in sales volumes under their belt. They joined Douglas Elliman in May where they hope to continue their success.
