Carlos Garcia, The Keyes Company/Master Brokers Forum

by James McClister

Carlos-Garcia-Final-WebNumber of years in real estate: 20 years

Describe your look: Contemporary and modern. I dress professionally for work but with a casual look. I retired the ties many years ago.

What do you consider a “fashion don’t?” Flip Flops, Crocs and footwear inappropriate for doing business as a real estate agent or broker; tight clothing that does not bring out the best body features in the person; and also jeans, tank tops, shorts and open shirts are not appropriate either.

What is your favorite piece of clothing and why? Comfortable shoes, as I never sit down much during the day. I change my shoes every three months or so.

What do you consider a must-have accessory? A nice Rolex watch for daily work and a diamond watch and jewelry to go out.

What is a fashion crime you have committed in the past? Mistakenly leaving home in a rush and not realizing I have a hole in my pants or under my arm and no time to make it back home or stop at a mall to get a new one. Suffering all day thinking, “I hope no one notices.” It can be stressful.

Where are your favorite places to shop?  Nordstrom and specialty boutiques that have different garments not seen everywhere and tend to have personal service.

What, besides your wardrobe, completes your look? My Oakley polarized sun glasses and my sportscar. Everyone knows I drive Jaguar cars – which I have changed every three years since 1992 – and they expect me to drive up in a new model each time. Plus I enjoy driving the convertible or coupes I usually get.

What is in your bag/briefcase? My smartphone, my wallet (with lots of credit cards) and my Oakley sun glasses.

My closet is full of…an excessive amount of shirts and pants for every occasion. I forget to clean out my closet so I need a larger closet each time.

What is your style advice for other people in the industry? Clients in the real estate world want a professional look but a relaxed and casual fit in our hot Miami weather when you meet with them for a listing or touring properties with a buyer. For events you add on a blazer and the look moves to the next level. I retired my ties many years ago when a client would not sign a million-dollar contract because I was sweating in the Miami Beach sun. She made me return the following day demanding I wear a more casual outfit. I did, she signed and I retired all my ties and decided to change the look to a more causal and relaxed fit.
