In WalletHub’s 2015 list of the best and worst school systems in America, Florida ranked among the midsection of states, coming in at No. 23 overall – and No. 26 when only “quality” was considered. However, despite the state’s lackluster standing, schools in its biggest metro have still managed to show up on a number of national rankings this year, highlighting what has become another attractor of new residents and investors to the city. In a recent report, education ranking and review site Niche took a closer look at Miami’s school system to determine the best elementary schools, high schools and districts.

The rankings are as follows:

Top 5 Best High Schools:

  1. School for Advanced Studies – South
  2. Coral Reef Senior High School
  3. Suncoast Community High School
  4. College Academy at Broward College
  5. School for Advanced Studies – Wolfson

Top 5 Best School Districts:

  1. Martin County School District
  2. Collier County Public Schools
  3. Miami-Dade County Public Schools
  4. Palm Beach County School District
  5. Broward County Public Schools

Top 5 Best Elementary Schools:

  1. Sunset Elementary School
  2. Henry S. West Laboratory School
  3. Frank Crawford Martin International Center
  4. North Dade Center for Modern Languages Elementary School
  5. Coral Reef Elementary School

Niche compiled its list from over 300,000 student and parent reviews, dozens of statistical factors – including academics, diversity, teacher and facility quality, and survey responses, among others – and millions of student outcome stats.

I am proud to be a teacher at Frank C.Martin K-8 Center!

  • M.Vera-Llano says:

I have been a teacher at Coral Reef Elementary for the past 23 years and can attest to the fact that Coral Reef has always been a “Hidden Gem” in the MDCPS system..
My three sons’ all attended CRE from K-5 and received a solid educational foundation with teachers that treated them like their own children. Today my sons are all college graduates from top ranked universities with graduate degrees in accounting and nursing. I firmly believe that they would not be as successful as they are today if it had not been for the wonderful formative years they experienced with the exceptional teachers they have had here at “The Reef”.
In fact, we are extremely fortunate to still have many of those teachers still teaching at our school. This in itself is a testament to the dedication and love that our faculty has for our students, their parents and this wonderful and generous community some of us call our second home… Coral Reef.
So I guess it goes without saying.. ” I’m a proud Coral Reefer for Life!”

Ms. Vera-Llano, YOU are the main reason my children went from private school to public school. The kindness, love and compassion you demonstrated to me and my children years ago is the reason they flourished at Coral Reef Elementary. So nice to know that you continue to share your gifts and talents. Miss you.

Congratulations to teachers and students at Sunset, my favorite elementary school.
    Well deserve this first place.!

  • Maria Scott says:

I can definitely speak for Coral reef elementary, because my children went their and they now attend a magnet school. Coral has the most caring, loving teachers the district could have. Mrs. Rosner, Ms. Cardin, Mrs. Trout and Mrs. K. Valdes and Ms. Novas to name a few of the most amazing teachers/women/leaders I have ever come across. As for Coral reef senior high, my daughter graduated from there and she is now in college soon to graduate with her bachelor’s in nursing. Cudos to all of the schools that made the list.

  • S. Walker says:

Sad to see Palmetto Elementary in Pinecrest didn’t make the top 5. Amazing school with fewer students than some of the other schools. Very close knit community with an award winning PTA. Teachers, staff and parents doing an amazing job making sure these kids succeed. It takes a village…

  • Rene Price says:

Congrats to FC Martin K-8 Center! During my many years as a parent of 3 children at Frank C. Crawford Martin K-8 Center, I always knew it was a wonderful school. So wonderful to see the school receive this recognition.

  • David Washington says:

I am a parent of two whom attends F.C. Martin and I attended Coral Reef Elementary and F.C.M. (before becoming K-8). I am proud of the accomplishments.Keep it up F.C.M & CRE.
