Agent Snapshot: Erika Elias, Real Estate Associate, Macken Realty, Doral

Erika-Elias

Erika Elias is a real estate associate with Macken Realty working in Doral.

What was your first job in the realty industry? My first job in real estate was as an administrative assistant for a commercial real estate firm out of Doral, Fla.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? I enjoy hosting dinners and entertaining friends and family. It’s my way to detach and lessen stress.

Where did you grow up? I have moved around a lot in my life. For the most part I grew up in San Jose, Calif. and Hialeah, Fla.

Growing up, what did you want to be? I wanted to be sooo many things. An archeologist, then a teacher, an attorney, a writer and finally a psychologist.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? I would love to get the opportunity to sit and listen to Deepak Chopra over lunch. He has such insight on the elevated sense of living. I love his books and his shared knowledge of consciousness, love and life.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? I love hanging out at home. I feel the safest there to do whatever I want. My very next place has to be Wynwood Downtown Miami, the best rehabilited town in South Florida, by far.

What do you love most about the industry? I love the multifaceted topics of real estate. They all tie in with the people aspect.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? My smile, as well as my my 10 years of experience as a title/settlement agent. Also, knowing the transactions from the funding aspect is a major plus.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? The most difficult thing for me has to be balancing customer expectations. I want to deliver my clients all that they expect, just sometimes it’s not all reality.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? I meet new clients all throughout my community. I network effortlessly with the people that service me within my city.

What has been you greatest accomplishment? My one child. She’s twelve and she’s an amazing soul. Kids teach you the most about life and yourself.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? I saw Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and it was amazing – can’t wait for the next one. I have a “thing” for apes; they’re so so cute. As far as a book, I have been reading a book of poems from the 1800’s by William Cullen Bryant. I love poetry.

What is your favorite restaurant? For casual dining, Pei Wei is the best. For a fancier outing, Capital Grille.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Houston? The Freedom Tower. I love historical architecture and South Florida lacks so much of it that the Freedom Tower breaths history into me.

What kind of car do you drive? A Jeep Wrangler X. My partner in any bumpy situation.

Smartphone or paper? Smartphone. It’s official, I use paper less and less.

What is your favorite city after Houston? Pembroke Pines, it’s wholesome and family oriented. If I would answer about an outside Florida city it would have to be Savannah, Ga.. It’s a beautiful place.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Be current and relevant in how your audience gets information.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? Go MLS Miami.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? Mashable.
